About the position

The Master Transportation Security Officer - Security Training Instructor position at the Department of Homeland Security involves safeguarding the American way of life by securing transportation infrastructure at Birmingham International Airport. This role includes supporting the airport training program, performing pre-board security screening, and conducting various training-related functions to ensure compliance with national training standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform training instruction within established guidelines and standards in support of nationally developed training programs.
  • Support recurrent training needs and conduct return to duty and remediation training.
  • Adapt and develop local training materials to meet requirements.
  • Conduct local training in accordance with training standards.
  • Assist with training department administrative support, including Online Learning Center entry and roster management.
  • Assist with training logistics support components, coordinating needed supplies and materials.
  • Manage classroom dynamics and resolve routine classroom problems.
  • Monitor and evaluate training and provide feedback on needed adjustments.
  • Recommend enhancements to training programs and maintain communication with management regarding training issues.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to address identified training needs.
  • Administer and score training tests, including job knowledge and image tests.
  • Assist with PASS Practical Skills Observations and conduct Level 3 Assessments as needed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and be subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work, including physical abilities assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in instructional methods to provide formal training or teach others in prescribed subjects.
  • Experience in security work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.
