About the position

PNNL's Environmental and Molecular Sciences Lab (EMSL) is seeking a data engineer intern to create data products that empower scientists to unlock the potential of scientific data. The intern will work as part of the data architecture team, utilizing cutting-edge software and data engineering technologies to ensure scientific data is free and accessible according to FAIR data principles. This is a fully remote position, expected to last 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Create scalable pipelines which handle a wide variety of data.
• Build and expand REST APIs to enable data integration across systems and institutions.
• Automate scientific data processing and management.
• Leverage a wide range of technical skills to solve complex, multi-domain challenges.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand scope and requirements for data products.
• Interface with many teams within EMSL to provide software solutions that work across the entire organization.

Requirements

• Candidates must be matriculated/enrolled in a Master's program at an accredited college or university.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

• Experience creating and managing REST APIs
• Experience with scientific data
• Experience creating data pipelines
• Experience with bash scripting
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS or GCP or Azure
• Pursuing a master's degree in data science or applied science field, or in a STEM field such as software engineering, physics, or biology
• 2 years of experience with Python
• 2 years of experience with SQL
• Experience with Linux
• Experience with git
