About the position

The Materials & Processes Engineer will work in a collaborative engineering team environment primarily responsible for aiding KBR's Human Health and Performance team with the design and development of hardware to support human space flight. This role involves advising on materials and processes for both intravehicular and extravehicular environments, ensuring compliance with NASA standards, and providing manufacturing process support for human space flight systems.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, guide, and provide consultation on Materials & Processes requirements for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments.
  • Be familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, testing.
  • Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all program/project specifications.
  • Review project/program documentation and specifications to ensure NASA standards are met regarding Materials and Processes used in spaceflight hardware.
  • Perform trade studies for technical solutions, including make/buy recommendations.
  • Assess whether vendor processes meet M&P requirements and define necessary changes.
  • Provide vendors with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing.
  • Provide manufacturing process support for human space flight systems.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Gather and analyze information related to program/project needs.
  • Develop alternative solutions.
  • Work well in group problem solving situations.
  • Follow policies and procedures; complete administrative tasks correctly and on time.
  • Support the organization's goals and values.

Requirements

  • B.S in Engineering, Math, or Science.
  • 0-7 years of experience in material and process engineering.
  • Knowledge of NASA standards and material data requirements for spaceflight hardware.
  • Demonstrable mastery/success of materials and process engineering.
  • Proficient using standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • NASA/JSC Materials and Process Signature Authority
  • Fracture control experience including life cycle and safe-life calculation and analysis using both hand calculations and software.
