The Material Expeditor plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by ensuring that parts are efficiently moved between departments according to the specified instructions outlined in the job orders. This position operates under the close supervision of the Production Supervisor and is responsible for tracking and organizing job orders with the assigned parts. The Expeditor's primary focus is to facilitate the smooth flow of materials throughout the production floor, ensuring that all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner. On a typical day, the Expeditor will begin their rounds by delivering parts to various departments, including Sheet Metal, CNC, Welding, Detailing, and Assembly. This involves not only the physical movement of parts but also the verification of job orders to ensure that all information is accurate. Throughout the day, the Expeditor will continually check in with each department to monitor the progress of job orders and ensure that parts are completed and moved to the next stage of production, such as the oven, sheeter, press, and Customer Service. In addition to moving parts, the Expeditor is responsible for coordinating the travelers, which are essential documents that accompany the parts through the manufacturing process. If any discrepancies or errors are identified, the Expeditor must report these to the Production Supervisor and complete a Quality Discrepancy Report (QDR) for parts that need to be returned to various departments. The role also requires the ability to locate missing parts and track the movement of hot parts that may have been moved by other employees. This position is vital for maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of the manufacturing process, ensuring that production goals are met and that quality standards are upheld.
