About the position

The Material Handler (1st Shift) at Lear Corporation is responsible for coordinating all functions related to receiving and some shipping operations within the plant. This role emphasizes accountability, effective communication, and compliance with corporate policies while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and customer service. The Material Handler will assist in pulling and staging goods for processing and shipment, as well as loading and unloading trailers, fostering a team-oriented culture.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate deliveries, pick-ups/shipments, including inter-plant transfers.
  • Maintain output and ensure quality while pulling and loading customer orders.
  • Prepare all necessary receiving paperwork.
  • Unload inbound shipments and transport to appropriate storage areas.
  • Ensure suitable conditions of product for each shipment.
  • Track work and adjust to meet changing requirements.
  • Assist with receiving items into the facility and some shipping duties as needed.
  • Make sure what is needed for shipment each day is pulled and ready for shipment in advance.
  • Identify the proper loading/unloading of freight.
  • Coordinate activities, including associate relations, 5S, productivity changes, quality, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Establish workflow between associates to optimize efficiency and productivity.
  • Perform additional duties as requested, needed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Entry-level position with under 1 year of experience in materials handling or related field.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Detail-oriented and a team player.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Physically able to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment, including manual dexterity and visual acuity.
  • Ability to effectively organize, set priorities, and oversee multiple tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skilled knowledge or direct experience in Material Handling and/or Shipping processes.
