About the position

Powell is a leading manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment, and we are currently seeking a dedicated Material Handler for our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. This position is crucial for supporting our designated division or department through the effective handling, organization, and record-keeping of essential materials. The Material Handler will work the 3rd shift, from Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, and will receive a 16% shift pay premium on top of the base salary. In this role, the Material Handler will be responsible for the receipt, stocking, and record-keeping of both new and existing materials. This includes maintaining accurate inventory control, facilitating the stocking and restocking of materials throughout the designated shop area, and ensuring that all materials are readily available for production needs. The Material Handler will communicate regularly with staff and management to identify material requirements and will fill workstations with the appropriate hardware and materials as needed. The position also requires the use of a scanner or designated computer program to maintain records of materials, and may involve operating a forklift to transport, load, and unload materials. Adherence to safety policies and practices is paramount to avoid incidents, and the Material Handler must learn and follow all manufacturing policies to ensure consistent production quality. The role demands a commitment to quality by following standard work and process instructions, as well as identifying any potential risks to product quality.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing atmosphere.
  • Ability to learn computer systems, databases and a variety of software programs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand and be physically active for extended periods of time.
  • Fluent in English and capable of communicating with co-workers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in an Industrial or Warehouse setting.
