The Material Handler I position at Owens & Minor involves various responsibilities related to the receiving, picking, sortation, and loading of products in a warehouse environment. This role is essential in ensuring that products are accurately processed and prepared for customer delivery, contributing to the overall efficiency of the healthcare supply chain.

  • Unload pallets and cases from inbound trailers and/or containers manually using the pallet jack.
  • Accurately count, verify, and receive product using radio frequency (RF) equipment and/or Voice Pick Technology; document variances.
  • Select products and quantities as directed by Voice Pick Technology and/or RF scanner and place items into totes on conveyor belt.
  • Remove empty cartons from pick module as needed.
  • Prepare sortation area by setting up pallets and carts for product.
  • Move cartons and totes from conveyor belts and/or rollers and place on pallets and/or carts according to assigned batch.
  • Use RF scanner to ensure that totes, pallets, and carts are loaded correctly onto trucks for customer delivery.
  • Use pallet jack to load pallets.
  • Follow general sequencing and process procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and correct or communicate hazards to management.
  • Place incoming merchandise into inventory.
  • Conduct physical inventories as required.
  • Count and perform basic math calculations.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards.
  • Perform additional duties as directed.
  • General knowledge of a variety of basic topics (math, reading, basic accounting, typing, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in a warehouse/distribution center is a plus.
  • Warehouse/Operations certification is a plus.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and meet performance standards/individual performance goals.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Dependable and able to report to work as scheduled/have regular punctual attendance.
  • Willingness to learn how to use new material handling equipment.
  • Willingness to learn WMS Technology.
  • Ability to adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures for safety rules and requirements received in training.
