About the position

The Material Handler/Paint Line position at Steelcase involves the manual handling of materials and parts within a manufacturing environment. The role requires the individual to hang, unload, or deliver parts to various production areas, ensuring quality standards are met while maintaining accurate records. This position is essential for the smooth operation of the manufacturing process, requiring physical stamina and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Hang, unload, or deliver parts and materials to conveyor load stations, paint lines, packing areas, staging areas, and assembly zones.
• Rotate within assigned material handling zones as required.
• Perform routine manual moving of materials, parts, and subassemblies within production areas.
• Inspect parts for defects and report quality issues and shortages to supervision.
• Maintain all required records.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent may be required.
• Requires little or no previous work experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and use measuring tools (e.g., calipers, linear measuring machine) when rotating into other zones.
• Ability to work standing constantly with frequent bending and twisting.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs. from floor to waist and 50 lbs. from waist to shoulders.
• Ability to push/pull up to 15 lbs. and frequently carry 35-55 lbs.
• Ability to reach forward constantly, laterally frequently, and occasionally over the shoulders.
• Ability to grasp with moderate force and rotate to other work as required.
• Knowledge of acceptable quality standards and ability to visually inspect for defects.
• Ability to recognize and accurately identify parts, materials, and finishes.
