About the position

The Material Handler / Storekeeper GSE position at United Airlines involves performing essential storekeeping tasks in maintenance bases and line operations. The role is crucial for ensuring that supplies, equipment, parts, and materials are received, issued, and stored properly. The position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions, as well as the operation of equipment and handling of hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform storekeeper duties in storeroom areas including receiving, issuing, provisioning, checking, classifying, inventorying, and storing supplies, equipment, parts, and materials.
  • Open, package, and seal boxes and crates.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions, noises, and fumes.
  • Climb and work from ladders, bend and stoop in confined areas, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Lift, push, and pull heavy items during loading and unloading of trucks, carts, and conveyors.
  • Fuel assigned vehicles and transport parts and materials between various locations.
  • Sort and count items, prepare labels and related ticketing documents.
  • Read and interpret documents or instructions to build kits for aircraft change orders, first aid, in-flight, and charter services.
  • Maintain an orderly and safe work area and familiarize with operating procedures, general rules, and regulations.
  • Operate various equipment including forklifts, trucks, tractors, tugs, and electric carts.
  • Use hand tools such as remote computer terminal sets, bag sealers, saws, mobile radios, shears, knives, and staplers.
  • Handle hazardous materials, flammable materials, and hazardous waste.
  • Convert units of weights and measurements and use a computer to track inventory.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic ability to convert units of weights and measurements.
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift in a 24/7 operation including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience requiring heavy lifting and safety awareness.
  • Previous warehouse or related experience.
  • Forklift operation experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Inventory experience.
