About the position
The Material Handler is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site. This role involves operating industrial trucks or electric hoists, ensuring materials are properly secured for transport, and maintaining an organized work area. The position requires physical stamina and the ability to handle heavy objects, contributing to the overall efficiency of the warehouse operations.
Responsibilities
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or product to be moved.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, racks, and shelves by hand or with a lift truck.
- Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping or stretch wrapping to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
- Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved.
- Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on pallets and other containers.
- Loads trucks for shipping of product.
- Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
- Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to laboratory for analysis.
- Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
- Moves raw materials to assist in loading of production machinery.
- Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products from delivery trucks.
- Performs other job duties as necessary.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Forklift Certification
- Experience in Warehouse operations
