About the position

The Material Handler position at R.H. Sheppard Co. Inc. involves moving skids and loading pallets throughout the plant using electric floor walkers and hand-operated lift trucks. The role requires adherence to safety procedures and operational standards while working under minimal supervision. The Material Handler is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the manufacturing process by managing the movement of raw and finished goods, as well as maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Move skids and load pallets throughout the plant using electric floor walkers and hand-operated lift trucks.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures and 5S standards.
  • Remove chips from machines and move chip carts to empty at assigned chip dock daily.
  • Transport production scrap and RVs to proper plant locations.
  • Provide machine workstations with necessary coolants and naphtha.
  • Pull pans, clean coolant sumps, and pump coolants from machines as needed.
  • Clean major spills and dispose of floor dry as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility in job assignments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • One year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of operating electric floor walkers and completion of forklift certification.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, both daily and weekends.
