About the position

The Material Handling Automation Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering automated material handling systems for DigiKey Electronics. This position involves leading small to medium complexity projects and supporting larger capacity expansions or system redesigns. The engineer will utilize engineering principles and design tools to create effective solutions within the Product Distribution Center (PDC).

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver material handling system components
• Use CAD and/or 3D tools to design mechanical systems and/or controls and electrical systems, including documentation and training
• Lead areas of system installations and testing in collaboration with DigiKey and third-party teams
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert on designs for which you are responsible
• Conduct prototyping or design a Proof of Concept
• Work on a design team or individually to meet business needs for the engineering team
• Follow engineering first principles in equipment and process design
• Provide support for medium to complex issues
• Collaborate with Senior and Principal Engineers, Software Engineers, and end users
• Design and implement solutions to support overall system requirements
• Provide design knowledge and expertise to support operations, engineering, maintenance, and training
• Support project deliverables with necessary documentation, configuration, programming, etc.
• Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities and seek guidance from senior staff when needed
• Provide documentation, training, and basic support

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar area of study
• Typically, 0-5+ years' experience as an Engineer in Material Handling or related field
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
