Material Handling Helper

About the position

The position involves loading, unloading, and moving materials within or near a plant, yard, or work site. The individual may move materials manually or with the use of equipment such as forklifts, dollies, wheelbarrows, or cranes. Responsibilities include completing records, maintaining tools and equipment, and performing various clean-up and housekeeping activities. The role also requires tracking all materials for each job.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities.
• Arranges on-site transfer of materials and equipment to meet production schedules.
• Visually inspects and receives material in all-weather conditions.
• Coordinates and expedites flow of materials between departments and work areas according to schedules or department priorities.
• Reviews production schedules and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements and track overdue materials.
• Examines material delivered to production departments to verify conformance to specifications.
• Assists with computing the amount of material required to complete job tasks.
• Compiles and maintains manual or computerized records, such as material inventory and in-process production reports.
• Compares and sees differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
• Visualizes objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Works under immediate supervision and observes all safety and project rules.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent and previous years of related experience.
• Experience working with pipe commodity.
• Experience with identifying fittings, flanges, and valves commodity.
• Receiving and/or Forklift experience is a plus.
