As a Material Industrial Engineer at Design Systems, Inc., you will play a crucial role in optimizing material flow and enhancing operational efficiency within manufacturing environments. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related field, along with 6-8 years of relevant work experience. Your daily tasks will primarily involve utilizing Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Factory CAD to create and manage layouts for material lineside displays, storage areas, and kitting and sequencing cells. You will also be responsible for performing site field checks to ensure that drawings are up-to-date and accurately reflect the physical layout of the facilities. In this role, you will need to understand various data inputs into the Plan for Every Part (PFEP), including Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM), process scrolls, inbound transportation data, and containerization data. Your analytical skills will be put to the test as you evaluate PFEP data and plant layouts to develop a comprehensive material flow master plan. You will conduct static manpower analyses using standard time data to create job assignments for material handling, perform dock capacity and storage analyses, and assign delivery methods for each part number, ensuring that parts requiring sequencing or kitting are properly identified and addressed. Additionally, you will evaluate packing sizes and densities for each part to optimize flow and display for operators, collaborating closely with the packaging team to address any material handling costs or lineside issues. Your responsibilities will also include assigning delivery equipment and manpower to all parts in the PFEP, evaluating Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) needs for each route, and creating Standard Work Instructions (SWI) packets for the material handling department. You will work alongside the dynamic simulation team to analyze both internal and external material flows, publish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and report weekly on project progress. As challenges arise, you will be expected to evaluate problems, develop solutions, and drive the closure of open issues. Your role will also involve identifying opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement within current or planned material flows, performing business case analyses, and supporting Design Systems, Inc.'s corporate goal of delivering world-class value to clients on every project. This position is based in Warren, MI, and requires local travel to various Michigan plants, with a general day shift schedule from Monday to Friday. The project duration is expected to be two years, with a high probability of extension.
