About the position

Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems is seeking a Materials Engineer with a focus on ceramics to develop piezoelectric ceramics for sensors used in sonar systems and military applications. The role involves analyzing materials, conducting research and development for new ceramic materials, and transitioning ceramic sensors into production.

Responsibilities

• Develop piezoelectric ceramics for sensors used in sonar systems and military applications.
• Analyze and test materials, parts, and assemblies to determine causes of failure.
• Conduct research and development to generate new or modified ceramic materials.
• Support development on transducer assemblies.
• Transition ceramic sensors into production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Engineering.
• Strong ceramics background with experience in PZT and other piezoelectric ceramics.
• General understanding of ceramic processing from powder formulation through sintering to machining.
• Willingness to engage in hands-on work with new ceramic materials and geometries.
• Ability to participate in lead monitoring program and wear a respirator for extended periods.
• Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Ceramic Engineering.
• Familiarity with failure analysis and lab equipment used in ceramics development.
• Knowledge of material property testing with various testing machines.
• Experience in corrosion analysis and mechanics.
• Familiarity with rheology and thermal analysis.
• Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE).
• General knowledge of ceramic additive and tape casting.
