About the position

Textron Aviation is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer to join our team, where you will play a crucial role in the testing and evaluation of composite and adhesive materials used in aircraft design and manufacturing. This position involves conducting physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on various materials, including phenolic, prepregs, film and paste adhesives, as well as foam and honeycomb core materials. You will utilize advanced fabrication processes such as autoclave, oven, press cure, and resin infusion to ensure the materials meet the necessary specifications for safety and performance in aviation applications. In this technical leadership role, you will be responsible for performing failure analysis to support engineering and production activities across the organization. You will provide essential technical support to internal manufacturing operations and suppliers, ensuring that all design concepts and engineering drawings are accurate and compliant with industry standards. Your expertise will be critical in preparing test plans and reports that document the results of your evaluations, which will inform design, manufacturing, and operational decisions. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will coordinate with cross-functional teams to develop, revise, and maintain engineering specifications. Additionally, you will participate in the continuous improvement of testing processes and tools, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our engineering practices. Your ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while conducting root cause analysis will be vital to your success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Test and evaluate composite and adhesive materials in relation to design, manufacturing, and safety of the aircraft.
  • Perform failure analysis to support engineering and production activities throughout the organization.
  • Provide technical support to internal manufacturing operations and suppliers as needed.
  • Review design concepts and engineering drawings to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare test plans and test reports to support all activities regarding design, manufacturing, and operational items.
  • Coordinate cross functionally to develop, revise and maintain engineering specifications.
  • Provide M&P technical support to customer service, field engineers, and other necessary functions.
  • Participate in development and improvement in test processes and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science / Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience or relative technical aviation experience required
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity
  • Hands-on experience with machinery or laboratory equipment
  • Ability to work within a team environment

Nice-to-haves

  • DER or regulatory experience is beneficial
  • Potential to grow into an ODA Unit Member role
  • Participation in SAMPE, CMH-17, Nadcap and other Aerospace industry groups is helpful
