About the position

As a Materials Engineer specializing in composites at Anduril Industries, you will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of materials for advanced defense technology products. This position involves working within a dynamic team to push the boundaries of materials science, contributing to innovative solutions that enhance military capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in materials science and engineering, with a strong drive to apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and testing of new materials to meet engineering and performance specifications.
  • Participate in the characterization and analysis of composite materials using techniques such as nondestructive testing, mechanical testing, and failure analysis.
  • Contribute to the selection of materials for various applications considering factors such as mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and manufacturability.
  • Define test plans and process substantiation protocols, review and analyze data.
  • Support the team in supplier development and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve material-related issues and improve product reliability.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in materials science and engineering.
  • Document experimental procedures and results, and present findings to the team and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and mentors to develop professional engineering skills and knowledge.
  • Use first principles physics as a basis for every decision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher in Materials Science, Composites Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of materials science experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of materials processing and characterization techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering principles to practical applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands on experience with nondestructive testing and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a comprehensive material characterization effort.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and materials simulation tools.
  • Working knowledge of composites manufacturing, design, and process substantiation.
