The Materials Examiner & Identifier Leader position at the Department of Defense involves leading a team to examine and identify various materials, ensuring compliance with regulations and proper documentation. The role requires overseeing the workflow of team members, conducting inspections, and managing the classification and handling of materials, including hazardous items. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Mechanicsburg, PA, with occasional travel requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of three or more workers in trades and labor tasks.
• Provide instructions and ensure all workers have sufficient work.
• Check work in progress and completed tasks for compliance.
• Answer workers' questions regarding procedures and policies.
• Examine and determine the condition and disposition of various materials.
• Review disposal documents accompanying materials for accuracy.
• Visually inspect usable property for signs of condition and acceptability.
• Determine condition and reportability of materials, including special handling requirements.
• Verify accuracy of demilitarization codes and maintain segregated storage for specific items.
• Perform special and periodic inventory of property and re-palletize as necessary.
• Operate forklifts and related materials handling equipment.

Requirements

• Ability to lead and instruct other workers on work methods.
• Knowledge of materials and ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
• Experience in technical practices related to materials handling and examination.
• Ability to adhere to safety standards and procedures.
