About the position

The Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) Leader position at Sierra Army Depot involves overseeing a team of materials handlers, ensuring efficient operations in the handling and processing of materials. The role requires operating heavy machinery, including forklifts, and managing hazardous waste in compliance with environmental regulations. This position is essential for maintaining the depot's logistical support functions and requires strong leadership and operational skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a team of materials handlers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
• Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklifts with a capacity of up to 40,000 pounds.
• Process hazardous waste in accordance with established procedures.
• Assign immediate tasks to team members based on instructions from the foreman.
• Perform cleaning and preservation of metal parts using appropriate methods and materials.

Requirements

• Ability to perform the work of a Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision.
• Experience in leading other materials handler employees and operating forklifts.
• Knowledge of storing hazardous and non-hazardous materials and reviewing storage documents for accuracy.
