About the position
The Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator) is responsible for performing various warehouse tasks including inventory management, loading and unloading cargo, and transporting items for the Lyster Army Health Clinic and surrounding commands. The role requires operating motor vehicles and ensuring proper handling of cargo, while adhering to safety and operational guidelines. The position is full-time, primarily indoors, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.
Responsibilities
- Complete inventories of warehouse items.
- Receive incoming shipments from commercial and/or military postage carriers.
- Perform driver maintenance by completing trip, accident, or other forms as required.
- Operate motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight of up to 23,000 pounds.
- Assure vehicle is properly loaded with cargo protected from weather.
- Maintain warehouse procedures and guidelines set forth by governing organizations.
Requirements
- Ability to perform common tasks such as operating a motor vehicle loaded with cargo and completing inventories of warehouse items.
- Ability to receive incoming shipments from postage carriers and place stock in permanent storage locations.
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
- Knowledge of materials and technical practices.
- Ability to maintain work practices including keeping things neat, clean, and in order.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, stoop, lift, and carry items weighing up to 60-70 pounds.
