About the position

The Materials Handler position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center involves managing warehouse operations, including the handling and oversight of various product lines. The role is essential for ensuring efficient storage, movement, and distribution of materials within the logistics service, contributing to the overall functionality of the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement storage plans for assigned areas and arrange for the movement of supplies between warehouse locations.
  • Consolidate materials to maximize space utilization and protect materials.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials on docking areas.
  • Select specific storage locations within the framework of the general warehousing plan.
  • Rotate stock, check for outdated materials, and maintain appropriate safeguards and temperature controls.
  • Handle delivery and warehousing of materials, including hazardous, flammable, and temperature-sensitive products.
  • Drive vehicles, trucks, or vans not exceeding 4500 pounds vehicular weight, with electrical or hydraulic lift.
  • Group supplies in a logical and easy access manner while ensuring maximum efficiency of space.
  • Submit monthly reports, status updates, periodic monitors, and set benchmarks.
  • Coordinate all excess/turn-ins of equipment and materials.
  • May serve as a senior member of a warehouse project team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position through training or experience.
  • Physical ability to handle materials frequently weighing over 40 pounds and occasionally over 100 pounds.

  • Experience in warehouse operations or logistics management.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling and safety protocols.
  • Valid driver's license or commercial driver's license (CDL) if required to operate a motor vehicle.
