About the position

The Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of raw and packaging materials to production facilities, acting as the front-line representative of Purchasing to operations. This role involves managing purchase orders, optimizing inventory levels, and collaborating with various departments to support production needs while minimizing costs and excess inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Place Purchase Orders and manage replenishment strategies for assigned materials.
  • Manage supply disruptions driven by unforeseen events and react to changes.
  • Understand supply constraints and have appropriate contingency plans in place to maintain production.
  • Optimize warehouse space by ensuring POs are delivered to avoid shortages and inventory overflow.
  • Ensure availability of material through forecasts, lead time replenishment scheduling, and collaboration with suppliers and plant operations.
  • Develop and lead inventory cost reduction initiatives in partnership with internal and external customers.
  • Minimize the impact of excess inventory by rescheduling POs or transferring to other locations.
  • Identify and execute ideas for areas of improvement, such as material cost savings projects and warehouse capacity optimization.
  • Work with Category Managers on supply delays and discrepancies in contract pricing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, R&D, Suppliers, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Finance on new materials commercialization.
  • Drive Key Performance Indicators to meet targets regarding Purchase Price Variances and inventory metrics.
  • Support financial responsibilities related to Purchasing, including assisting warehousing with inventory variances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years experience in procurement, supply chain, or materials management.
  • CPSM certification is highly encouraged within the first three years of employment.
  • SAP knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
