About the position

In this role, you will support the polymer materials laboratory in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of material inspection strategies. As a polymer materials subject matter expert, you will provide materials expertise as it relates to product design, processing, and analytical methods to various functions within the organization as well as to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Problem Solving - This open-ended category emphasizes the diversity of concerns that arise without an established understanding. Developing a sound technical understanding of the issue, communicating effectively across internal and external functions, and ultimately working collaboratively to resolve the concern is the core of this responsibility.
  • Material Testing and Support - Steer material inspection strategy for NPI, create, maintain, and optimize material inspection processes, and develop material evaluation plans to support various functions / projects. This may include projects such as analysis of competitor products, internal products, and supplied raw materials and components, as well as nonconforming product and complaint investigations.
  • Quality System Maintenance - Responsible for materials related documentation such as inspection work instructions. Responsible for internal process changes to ensure compliance with QS and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication - Responsible for both verbal and written communication to document specifications development, test method work instructions, and nonconforming product and complaint investigations. Project investigations require clearly and concisely written technical reports.
  • Methods Development - Confirm established tests identify meaningful characteristics. Investigate and develop methods to improve the accuracy and relevance of tests. This frequently includes investigations that include other disciplines.
  • Regulatory Support - Support both customer and internal regulatory functions with material information, including researching material information to address requests about materials and components. Regulatory agencies will include the FDA.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science /Materials Engineering or other similarly relevant STEM discipline.
  • 0 - 3 years of technical experience in a polymers focused materials lab, plastics manufacturing or related manufacturing industry, or equivalent educational experience.
  • Familiarity with Melt Index (MI), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
  • Knowledge of polymer testing and advanced analytical methods.
  • Advanced engineering and statistical problem-solving techniques.
  • Relevant specialization may be considered based on anticipated needs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to read and understand standards and drawings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
