About the position

The Materials Testing Applications Engineer at ITW is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to customers and sales teams in the materials testing business. This role involves translating customer requirements into technical solutions, conducting demonstrations, and establishing credibility with prospective clients. The engineer will also participate in professional societies to stay updated on testing trends and influence industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance directly to customers and salespeople.
  • Establish technical credibility with prospective customers.
  • Understand the prospect's technical needs and develop appropriate MTS testing solutions.
  • Conduct testing demonstrations to help prospective customers understand the solution.
  • Plan and conduct effective customer presentations.
  • Participate in professional societies and committees to stay informed of the latest testing trends and influence testing standards.
  • Manage assigned customer opportunities and lead a technical pursuit team through solution creation.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Engineering or Materials Science.
  • 5+ years of progressively demanding technical experience.
  • Ability to travel 5%-20% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
  • Business acumen and technical expertise.

Nice-to-haves

  • Several years of Materials Science experience in Low Cycle Fatigue, High Cycle Fatigue, Fracture Mechanics, or Fatigue Crack Growth Testing of Metals or Composite Materials.
  • Experience conducting Low Cycle Fatigue, High Cycle Fatigue, Fracture Mechanics and/or Fatigue Crack Growth tests in a Materials Testing Laboratory.
  • Current or previous MTS work experience.
  • Experience working with a wide range of customers.
  • Ability to develop and propose concepts and test methodologies.
  • Postgraduate degree in Materials Science.
