About the position
The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Maternity Unit at Oswego Health is a per diem role responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages within the Women's Services department. The RN will work under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Director, ensuring adherence to professional standards and departmental policies. This role involves effective patient interaction, cross-training for charge responsibilities, and collaboration with healthcare team members to deliver high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Plans, provides, and evaluates patient care as a member of the healthcare team.
- Assesses individual patient learning needs and institutes teaching methods in preparation for discharge.
- Regularly assesses nursing care, identifies potential problems, and develops nursing interventions.
- Delegates staff assignments and responsibilities effectively, assuming leadership within the department.
- Transcribes and implements physician orders per policy and procedure.
- Records all pertinent information on the patient's medical record accurately and concisely.
- Identifies and correlates abnormal diagnostic data with patient status, reporting appropriately.
- Prepares and administers medications via all acceptable routes, documenting accordingly.
- Maintains proper stock levels and checks equipment and emergency supplies as required.
- Ensures patient safety through preventive measures and proper identification protocols.
Requirements
- Diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure in New York State (NYS).
- Current certification in CPR.
- Completion of IV Therapy, Pharmacology, Neonatal Resuscitation, CARE/EFM, and CBE Courses within the first year of employment.
- One year of Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in Surgery is preferred.
