Math Finance Summer Intern - Graduate Level

About the position

The Math Finance Summer Internship at LSEG is designed for graduate students in their penultimate year, providing hands-on experience within the Strats and Modelling team. Interns will engage in real projects that contribute to the success of the organization, focusing on algorithm design and optimization in financial contexts. The internship lasts for 12 weeks, starting in June 2025, and is based in York, UK.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a small team to build and research improvements to the Compression engine.
• Collaborate with the Product Development team to enhance products based on client feedback and analysis.
• Develop new scaling schemes to improve reliability and performance.
• Use current MIP optimiser solutions as a starting point for a non-linear solver.
• Investigate sensitivity of solutions to data changes to identify impactful constraints.
• Introduce new variables in the optimiser for variable hedge rates.
• Improve runtime performance by adding heuristics to reduce data set and solution search space.
• Develop functionality to validate incoming risk data prior to optimisation.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a graduate program, expected to complete by summer 2026.
• Predicted PhD or master's degree in Math, Physics, Financial Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Solid understanding of Python for numerical programs, familiarity with pandas and numpy.
• Strong mathematical background in numerical methods, linear algebra, probability, and statistics.
• Understanding of linear programming, mixed integer programming, and convex optimisation.
• Knowledge of Interest Rate Swaps.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
