About the position

The Math Lab Tutor at Collin County Community College is responsible for providing tutoring and instructional support to students in mathematics. This role involves assisting faculty, staff, and students with resources available in the Math Lab, maintaining knowledge of the math curriculum, and ensuring a conducive learning environment. The tutor will communicate effectively with various stakeholders to enhance the educational experience and track student progress through accurate record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group math instruction, tutoring, and lab assistance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of math content offered and adapt new methods as needed for the curriculum.
  • Assist with monitoring day-to-day activities in the lab, including maintaining a clean lab, compiling data for reports, troubleshooting computer issues, and checking emails.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with selecting and using the resources and technology offered in the Math Lab, including math course software platforms, Microsoft Word and Excel, and graphing calculators.
  • Compile resources as needed for tutoring sessions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records on tutoring sessions to track student progress and collect data for reports.
  • Handle inquiries about the Math Lab's procedures, policies, hours of operation, resources available, and tutoring methods.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Secure offices and files on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in mathematics or a directly related field (for Level II).
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in mathematics or a directly related field (for Level III).
  • One year of tutoring and/or teaching experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of currently-used graphing calculators.
  • Knowledge of available online resources and supplemental materials.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet student needs.
