About the position

Northwest Florida State College is seeking part-time adjunct instructors for the Mathematics department. As an adjunct instructor, you will be hired on an as-needed basis, term-by-term, or per course. This position allows you to join the part-time instructional pool, where you will be considered for teaching opportunities as they arise. The role requires you to provide classroom instruction, fulfill contractual obligations during the term, and conduct each class according to the approved syllabus. You will utilize the approved textbook and other instructional materials as necessary, ensuring that you are fully prepared and punctual for each class session. In addition to classroom instruction, you will be responsible for utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS) in accordance with college policies and procedures. This includes submitting attendance confirmations, maintaining course grades, and submitting grades at the appropriate times. Engaging with students is a key part of this role; you will support students by answering questions promptly and referring them for additional support when needed. It is essential to be familiar with and abide by college policies while treating students and colleagues with respect and understanding of differences. You may also assist in the development of curriculum as appropriate and will be required to complete annual mandatory compliance training. Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair as necessary. Responsibilities

  • Providing classroom instruction.

  • Utilize the LMS following college policies and procedures.
  • Submit attendance confirmation per college policies and procedures.
  • Maintain course grades in the LMS and submit grades at the applicable times.
  • Support students by engaging them in class, answering questions in a timely manner, and referring them for additional support when necessary.
  • Be familiar with and abide by college policies.
  • Treat students and colleagues with respect and understanding of differences.
  • Assisting in development of curriculum as appropriate.
  • Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in mathematics, or a master's degree in a related field and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities.
  • Proficiency with teaching technologies, including lecture-capture software, such as Camtasia or Kaltura, and familiarity with web-conferencing software to facilitate synchronous online student support (required if applying to teach online).
  • Experience in student engagement techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology-based instruction preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
