About the position

The Mathematics Instructor at the US Navy Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL is responsible for providing math instruction for the Future Sailor Preparatory Course (FPSC). The role involves maintaining instructional competencies, teaching various mathematical concepts, conducting tutoring sessions, and collaborating with staff to enhance academic programs. The instructor will also manage classroom environments and maintain student records while ensuring compliance with Navy standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide math instruction for the Future Sailor Preparatory Course (FPSC).
  • Maintain and display instructional competencies that meet or exceed NITC standards.
  • Teach a classroom of FPSC students using official curricula.
  • Conduct small group and individualized tutoring to assist students needing additional instruction.
  • Collaborate with FPSC staff in the application and delivery of academic programs.
  • Assist in developing lesson and test plans for academic instruction.
  • Prepare classrooms and workstations prior to instruction, ensuring all materials are available.
  • Maintain student records concerning assignments and test results.
  • Ensure security of files containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Inventory instructional materials and ensure availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics education or closely related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in adult education, preferably in a 2-year college setting.
  • Experience teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
  • Completion of Military Service Instructor Training Course (ITC) or equivalent instructor training.
  • Familiarity with Navy rules, regulations, and course curriculum.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
