About the position

The Assistant Director - Program Advisor for the MBA Program at St. Cloud State University is responsible for providing holistic academic advising and success coaching to students throughout their MBA journey. This role involves serving as the advisor of record, assisting students with academic planning, course selection, and navigating university procedures. The position also includes conducting admissions operations, enhancing student success through communication and policy guidance, and collaborating with faculty and other departments to support student needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic academic advising and success coaching for MBA students.
  • Serve as the advisor of record for students in the MBA program.
  • Introduce and orient students to academic requirements and campus resources.
  • Develop program plans and resources for student progression.
  • Review and recommend courses of action for program changes and appeals.
  • Assist students in course and program concentration selection.
  • Help students navigate university procedures and processes.
  • Establish trust and rapport with students, tracking their progress.
  • Provide timely intervention for students needing support.
  • Assess student needs and connect them to appropriate resources.
  • Develop success plans for students on academic warning or probation.
  • Conduct admissions operations for MBA program students.
  • Approve students for admission to the MBA program.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Graduate Studies Admissions.
  • Respond to admissions queries and conduct information sessions.
  • Enhance student success through communication and faculty outreach.
  • Uphold academic and curricular policies established by the university.
  • Communicate with faculty delivering MBA courses to support students.
  • Represent the MBA program at campus events and meetings.
  • Assist with the assessment of MBA programs and services.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree and 1 year of higher education experience, or a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional higher education experience.
  • Familiarity with higher education systems and trends in student success and advising.
  • Experience with interpreting student data and navigating software programs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with graduate and non-traditional students in advising or related roles.
  • Experience advising business students regarding degree programs and careers.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and academic advising.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to use and organize data in Power BI and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with student information systems and student success management platforms.
  • Ability to work with underrepresented students and help them overcome barriers.
