About the position

Teledyne Imaging Sensors is seeking a dedicated MBE Growth Production Engineer to join our Infrared Materials Group, specifically for the second shift, which runs from approximately 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This role is pivotal in the production of high-performance infrared focal plane arrays and detectors, utilizing MBE (Molecular Beam Epitaxy) technology. The successful candidate will take ownership of MBE tools, overseeing their use, maintenance, and repair. Responsibilities will include designing growth structures, writing recipes, conducting wafer growth, and performing post-growth wafer characterization. The engineer will also correlate MBE growth results with the final device performance, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. As part of a mission-focused team, the MBE Growth Production Engineer will be encouraged to innovate and develop new growth and characterization techniques aimed at continual process improvements. This role requires a hands-on approach, as the engineer will work closely with the technical team in the laboratory, maintaining and operating MBE tools. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in semiconductor materials, particularly in the growth and characterization of HgCdTe wafers, and will be expected to contribute to yield enhancement and increased wafer throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee MBE growth and characterization of HgCdTe wafers for infrared focal plane arrays and detectors.
  • Manage MBE tool ownership, including planning, maintenance, and repair.
  • Design growth structures and write recipes for MBE processes.
  • Conduct wafer growth and post-growth characterization.
  • Correlate MBE growth results with final device performance.
  • Innovate new growth and characterization techniques for process improvements.

Requirements

  • Hands-on expertise with MBE growth of semiconductors.
  • Experience in MBE tool maintenance and repair.
  • Direct experience in semiconductor material characterization (structural, electrical, and optical).
  • Background in opto-electronic semiconductor devices, optics, electronics, software, cryogenics, and radiometric methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • PhD or MS degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Five plus years of related hands-on work experience in III-V or II-VI semiconductor MBE growth and characterization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience modeling infrared detector performance and correlating it to MBE growth and device processing parameters.
  • Prior experience in MBE growth in a production setting.
