About the position

The MBSE Systems Engineer at Aptima will play a crucial role in developing and integrating complex system models for flight training ecosystems. This position involves collaboration with a diverse team to ensure that various technologies work together effectively, enhancing training and operational readiness in military environments. The engineer will be responsible for leading model development, conducting requirement analysis, and providing training and support to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex system models using MBSE methodologies and SysML.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers to integrate systems and troubleshoot issues.
  • Analyze user requirements and existing system capabilities to determine feasibility within time and cost constraints.
  • Develop and implement simulation models to test system effectiveness and reliability.
  • Produce detailed documentation on system design and architecture, including technical manuals and user guides.
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users and stakeholders, including creating training materials and conducting workshops.
  • Monitor industry trends in MBSE and systems engineering to recommend and implement improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience (3+ years) with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in SysML (Systems Modeling Language).
  • Proven track record of integrating complex systems within multi-disciplinary environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to analyze system requirements and convert them into a coherent system model.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance at the Secret level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the defense sector, particularly with military aviation training systems.
  • Knowledge of specific DoD M&S systems (e.g., NGTS, AFSIM, VBS3).
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, data protection, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with Risk Management Frameworks (RMF) to obtain Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Experience leading projects or teams, with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Active DoD security clearance at the TS/SCI level.
