About the position
The Access and User Services Specialist (Limited Term) at Swarthmore College is responsible for ensuring patron access to library collections, services, and facilities at McCabe Library. This role involves providing excellent customer service, supervising student workers, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the library. The position is temporary, requiring 35 hours of work per week during the Spring 2025 semester, with specific responsibilities including student supervision, patron services, stacks maintenance, and facility management.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and assign tasks to student employees, providing training on library systems and customer service.
- Assist patrons with access to library materials and technology, ensuring adherence to library policies.
- Open and close the library with the help of student workers.
- Respond to patron queries and troubleshoot issues with library equipment and services.
- Maintain accurate patron data in the library's integrated system (Alma).
- Coordinate stacks maintenance to ensure proper shelving of materials according to classification systems.
- Assist with the maintenance of specialized library equipment and report malfunctions to Facilities or Public Safety.
- Ensure a safe library environment and respond to security issues as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 1-2 years of experience in a client-facing role
- Good working knowledge of Macintosh and/or Windows environments and basic applications software.
