About the position

The Charge Registered Nurse position at Clayton County Jail involves overseeing nursing operations during the night shift, ensuring timely responses to inmate health requests, and providing leadership support to the clinical team. The role requires a blend of clinical expertise and management skills to maintain high standards of care and address both clinical and non-clinical needs of inmates.

Responsibilities

• Access the Sapphire electronic medical record to identify and respond to sick call requests placed into the kiosk system.
• Triage requests based on urgency.
• Conduct face-to-face visits within 24 hours for inmates with clinical concerns.
• Perform in-person history and physical examinations.
• Provide treatment within your scope of practice using established protocols.
• Schedule follow-up appointments with Advanced Practice Providers, physicians, or transfer to the emergency department if necessary.
• Address non-clinical requests by forwarding them to the appropriate department.
• Document interactions with inmates and complete Sick Call Notes after face-to-face visits.
• Update task lists for non-clinical concerns and keep track of outstanding requests during each shift.
• Assist with managing staffing needs, scheduling, and call-outs.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the Health Services Administrator (HSA).
• Assist with new hire orientation, training, and competency checks.
• Assist with the continuous quality improvement program.
• Oversee withdrawal assessments and pharmacy bridging therapy.

Requirements

• Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of Georgia.
• BLS certification.
• Four years of RN experience, with a minimum of 2 years of Nursing Leadership or Charge Nurse experience.
