About the position

The MCH Data Scientist Student Worker position at the State of Minnesota's Health Department is designed for students currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program. This part-time role involves assisting with data-related projects within the Child and Family Health Division, specifically supporting the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant and SSDI Grant initiatives. The position offers flexible working hours and the opportunity to gain practical experience in public health data management and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Providing research and data capacity support for Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant efforts including the Title V MCH Needs Assessment and MCH Title V programs.
  • Assisting in creating and maintaining data dashboards.
  • Participating in development of structural and process measures linked to the National Performance Measures.
  • Maintaining the SSDI minimum and core data sets for State Title V MCH and Children and Youth with Special Health Needs (CYSHN) programs.

Requirements

  • Current registration in a masters or doctoral program such as nursing, public health, epidemiology, social work, early childhood, public affairs, or other health-related fields.
  • Knowledge of the general nature and objectives of statewide public health programs and MDH functions.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, graphics, PowerPoint and Access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate level student in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or similar field.
  • Knowledge of and experience in data collection, management, and analysis using statistical computing software such as SAS, Tableau, and Power BI.
