About the position

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking previously sworn police officers to join its force, which serves the MTA Bus, Metro, Light Rail, and MARC Train/Commuter Bus systems. This role requires candidates to have prior certification as a police officer from the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) or an equivalent out-of-state or federal certification. The position offers an attractive retirement and benefits package as part of the Law Enforcement Officers Pension Systems (LEOPS).

Responsibilities

• Serve and protect the MTA transit systems and its passengers.
• Enforce laws and regulations related to public transportation.
• Conduct investigations and respond to incidents on transit property.
• Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Maintain a visible presence to deter crime and ensure safety.
• Perform duties as assigned by superiors.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate recognized by the State of Maryland.
• Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in Maryland.
• Recent driving record (not over 30 days) that meets MTA standards.
• Ability to pass an oral interview and demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Good moral character and emotional stability as determined by a comprehensive background investigation.
• Physical ability to perform essential job functions as determined by a medical examination.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening and physical agility testing.
