About the position
The MDS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of resident assessments in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer program requirements. This role involves conducting federally mandated assessments, gathering data to determine residents' functional capacity, and developing appropriate care plans. The MDS Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting the emotional and physical well-being of residents in a long-term care facility.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and ensure accurate completion of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments.
- Conduct federally mandated assessments of residents and compile data for care planning.
- Review resident records for skilled services meeting Medicare coverage guidelines.
- Manage Medicare A Certification and Re-Certification processes per CMS guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Therapy Program Manager to schedule appropriate assessment dates.
- Perform ongoing evaluations to ensure appropriate reimbursement levels for residents.
- Complete MDS interviews and document findings in the medical record.
- Conduct Care Area Assessments (CAA's) for new residents and ensure compliance with OBRA assessments.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review resident programming and documentation requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of MDS data to the State/CMS repository.
Requirements
- Valid RN License
- Experience in Point-Click Care
- Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university
- Optional: Certification programs for MDS Coordinators through AANAC.
