About the position

The MDS/RAI Coordinator serves as the authoritative source of information regarding the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment process within the Health and Human Services Commission. This role involves providing technical support, developing training materials, and conducting training sessions for long-term care providers. The coordinator will also perform quality assurance reviews and serve as a liaison for complex topics related to MDS, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex technical assistance on MDS policies and procedures to staff and external stakeholders.
  • Develop policy and training materials, including guidance documents and curricula.
  • Maintain and update MDS/RAI information on agency webpages.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of documents and materials prepared by others.
  • Evaluate quality assurance reviews to provide policy interpretation and recommend actions.
  • Serve as a liaison and subject matter expert on MDS-related issues for agency staff and external entities.
  • Train staff and providers on MDS/RAI through various training formats.
  • Identify regulatory issues related to MDS and enhance statewide consistency.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Resident Assessment Coordinator certification required within one year of employment.
  • Experience with LTCR programs is preferred.
  • Experience with interpreting policy or rules, or developing or implementing policy, rules, or curricula is preferred.
  • Experience with delivering presentations, facilitating groups, or teaching adults is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching or leading teams.
  • Experience with compliance assessments in long-term care settings.
