About the position

The ME-Research Student Worker position is a funded research opportunity within the School of Engineering and Computing at Gannon University. The role focuses on conducting experiments and performing research related to the Assembly/Disassembly Force and Parts Integrity Tests on SnapLINX, an innovative fastening system used in medical applications. The student will work closely with a faculty research advisor to develop critical thinking and technical skills while contributing to the advancement of product performance through material and geometry testing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments related to the Assembly/Disassembly Force and Parts Integrity Tests on SnapLINX.
  • Perform literature searches and read journal articles to support research.
  • Develop and implement tasks of increasing complexity under faculty guidance.
  • Collaborate with a faculty mentor to enhance research skills and technical writing.
  • Analyze data to determine the impact of material composition and geometry on SnapLINX performance.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student at least at the junior level in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in working in a machine shop environment.
  • Experience in developing CAD models for mechanical components or systems.
  • Strong dedication to learning new concepts and applying them practically.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Detail-oriented, responsible, and able to work independently on assigned tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is an advantage.
  • Preference for Mechanical Engineering students.
