About the position

The Meat Assistant Department Manager at Festival Foods is responsible for supporting the Meat Department Manager in overseeing the operations of the meat department. This role involves leading a team of associates, ensuring compliance with company policies, and maintaining high standards of guest service and product quality. The Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in training staff, managing inventory, and contributing to the department's sales and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks as delegated by the Meat Department Manager and effectively lead in their absence.
  • Reinforce Festival culture, guest service, and performance expectations to all Meat associates.
  • Contribute to store sales and profitability by managing all aspects of the Meat Department operations, including labor, expenses, pricing, stock levels, merchandising, and guest service.
  • Ensure thorough and consistent training for all new and current Meat Department associates.
  • Develop, support, and guide associates through professional development.
  • Assist the Meat Manager with writing and conducting performance reviews.
  • Document violations of company policies/procedures by all Meat associates and conduct appropriate corrective action.
  • Observe sales floor and back stock conditions; take action to correct areas of opportunity.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and ensure accurate pricing on products received and sold.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with Store Director, Meat Directors, and other Department Managers to maintain high standards and exceed guest expectations.
  • Assist guests with finding items they are looking for and address concerns or resolve issues when a guest is not satisfied.
  • Assist all department associates with daily responsibilities while leading by example.
  • Contribute to overall cleanliness of the department by organizing and cleaning work areas, shelving, and sales floor as needed.
  • Assist Department Manager with timekeeping accuracy and communicate any missing time or schedule issues.
  • Ensure all quality standards are met, including quantity expectations at 100% by 10 am and 5 pm.

Requirements

  • High School Education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience (at least 1 year as manager) in retail or restaurant preferred.
  • WI Certified Food Manager License (Festival to reimburse if obtained while employed).
  • Ability to lead, coach, and motivate others.
  • Great oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of technology and the use of a computer.
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail food business and perishable department operations.
  • Merchandising skills and ability to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a grocery or retail environment.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
