About the position

The Service Meat Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in the Meat and Seafood Department. This role involves wrapping, trimming, stocking cases, and receiving merchandise while ensuring a friendly and efficient shopping experience for customers. The clerk must maintain cleanliness and adhere to sanitation procedures while working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading or unloading heavy items.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service to customers who call, including taking orders.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Wraps, weighs, and labels products in the Meat and Seafood Department.
  • Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness and stocks cases or rotates products accordingly.
  • Prepares and organizes seafood items for display and finishes trims on steaks, roasts, and chops.
  • Maintains cleanliness and proper sanitation procedures in the work area.
  • Replenishes and organizes coolers and reports out-of-stock products to appropriate personnel.
  • Trays, slices, tenderizes, and grinds products as needed.
  • Removes trash in a timely manner and adheres to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Food safety training.
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction and record figures accurately.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service or retail environment.
  • Knowledge of meat and seafood products.
