About the position

The Meat Cutter at Fresh Thyme Market is responsible for maintaining the meat department's cleanliness and stock levels while providing excellent customer service. This role involves cutting, packaging, and presenting meat products, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and assisting customers with their inquiries. The position is integral to the store's operations, contributing to a positive shopping experience and supporting the company's mission of promoting healthy living.

Responsibilities

• Stocks meat cases, ensuring product presentation, facing, filling, and organization as per department schematics.
• Maintains cleanliness of meat aisles, storage areas, and work areas for safety, including cleaning shelves and floors.
• Monitors the rotation of meat products, paying attention to expired stock.
• Assists customers with inquiries and purchases at the meat counter, including selling and cross-selling products.
• Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
• Operates equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, and pallet jacks safely and effectively.
• Cuts, trays, and packages required meat and seafood products for the day.
• Maintains organization and rotation of meat products in coolers and freezers.
• Prepares specialty meat and seafood products according to recipe standards.
• Participates in pre-inventory preparation, ensuring tags match products.
• Sustains a high level of product knowledge and preparation, ensuring a clean department appearance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years professional experience in a related field.
• Preferred 2-3 years grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures.
• Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Completion of a journeyman cutter or apprenticeship program is preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and possess excellent organizational skills.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations in grocery retail.
