About the position

The Meat Department Lead is responsible for overseeing the meat department operations at Berkot's Super Foods, ensuring compliance with company policies and standards. This role focuses on maximizing sales and profitability through effective promotional and merchandising strategies while providing leadership and training to meat department employees. The position emphasizes customer service and maintaining high sanitation standards within the department.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction for the assigned area of meat employees.
• Provide training to meat cutters in the overall operation of the meat department.
• Deliver superior customer service.
• Maintain sanitation control according to company policy.
• Operate meat department equipment such as wrapping machines, power jacks, and knives.
• Stand and walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
• Perform basic math skills for inventory and sales tracking.
• Remove outdated or damaged product from meat cases.
• Fill in meat cases when required.
• Control department expenses by meeting budgeted goals and controlling shrinkage.
• Identify areas for improvement in the meat department and implement changes.

Requirements

• Experience in a meat department or similar role is preferred but not required.
• Ability to provide leadership and training to staff.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Basic math skills for inventory management.
• Ability to operate meat department equipment safely.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of shrink and grind reports.
• Simple computer knowledge.
