About the position

The Meat Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Meat/Seafood Department, ensuring inventory management, pricing integrity, and customer satisfaction. This role involves training staff, managing labor costs, and maintaining product quality while adhering to company standards and regulations. The manager will engage with customers, handle specialty meats and seafood, and ensure a well-merchandised department that maximizes sales and gross profit.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages all functions and activities of the Meat/Seafood Department.
  • Helps to manage labor costs and reduce losses due to shrink, damage, and pilferage.
  • Responsible for the training and development of all Meat Cutters and Meat/Seafood Clerks.
  • Handles and cuts a variety of specialty meats and seafood per customer requests.
  • Demonstrates organization and teamwork to provide a high-quality shopping experience.
  • Follows approved procedures for receiving, weighing, and breaking down meat and seafood products.
  • Manages inventory and ordering, ensuring freshness and quality.
  • Unloads and breaks down deliveries, stocking cases and coolers with products.
  • Maintains proper product assortment, merchandising, and product quality on the sales floor.
  • Physically prepares meat and seafood items according to recipes and processes.
  • Monitors temperature of cases, shelves, and storage areas, reporting failures to the Store Manager.
  • Follows maintenance and sanitation procedures for coolers and freezers.
  • Receives, inspects, and stores products to ensure quality and safety.
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment, prep-tables, and utensils, and maintains cleanliness in the prep area.
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal health regulations and store policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of weekly ad items and assists customers with product location.
  • Communicates effectively within the department and participates in on-the-job training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency with at least 3-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department functions.
  • Proficient computer and math skills.
  • Possesses a current Food Handler Certificate or able to obtain upon employment.
  • Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.
