About the position
The Meat Inspection and Drug Residue Veterinarian position at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is responsible for conducting specialized activities related to meat inspection, including slaughter training and humane handling audits. This role also involves coordinating drug residue prevention projects and collaborating with various health and agricultural agencies to address animal health and food safety issues. The position requires significant veterinary expertise and is primarily remote, with travel across Minnesota for inspections and outreach activities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct specialized activities for the meat inspection program's slaughter training.
- Perform humane handling audits and carcass dispositions as needed.
- Coordinate and execute project activities for drug residue prevention.
- Collaborate with program staff, management, and health departments on animal disease issues.
- Conduct outreach and training with the agricultural industry.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (D.V.M. or equivalent).
- License to practice veterinary medicine in Minnesota or eligibility to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.
- Two years of experience in public health practice or food safety related fields.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment.
Nice-to-haves
