About the position

The Meat Manager at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the meat department in a retail store. This role includes managing staff, ensuring product quality and freshness, maintaining inventory, and meeting company goals and performance indicators. The Meat Manager plays a crucial role in training associates, implementing company policies, and ensuring compliance with food safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the meat department operations in a retail store.
  • Order and maintain inventory while ensuring product freshness and quality.
  • Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight, and condition.
  • Manage a team responsible for stocking, production, and ensuring product quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain familiarity with all products in the department and store, including advertised items and promotions.
  • Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations.
  • Implement and maintain work schedules, labor control, and payroll expense for the department.
  • Model core values and competencies while implementing Our Winning Recipe.
  • Manage staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
  • Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts as required.
  • Participate in daily huddles and manager meetings, both in-person and online.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department following company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and safety guidelines, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Develop and implement plans to meet company goals and key performance indicators.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Two years of retail experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment.
  • Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
  • Knowledge of retail store operations and retail management systems.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hands-on retail environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures.
