About the position

The Mecutting Worker position at the Department of Defense's Defense Logistics Agency involves assisting full-performance Mecutters in processing various types of meat, including beef, pork, veal, and lamb, into retail and ready-to-eat cuts for sale in a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) facility. This role is essential for maintaining the quality and presentation of meat products for customers.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeyman mecutters by performing simpler tasks when processing meat.
• Tray, wrap, weigh, and price cuts using automatic or manual wrapping machines.
• Ensure correct pricing by referencing price lists.
• Replenish stock in display cases and rotate products to ensure wholesomeness.
• Use, clean, maintain, and sharpen a variety of hand tools and power equipment.
• Clean and sanitize work area to maintain required standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen or national.
• Meet minimum age requirement.
• Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service.
• Ability to obtain and maintain clearance eligibility based on the appropriate background investigation.
• Meet physical requirements including standing, lifting, and handling items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a retail meat department traying, wrapping, and weighing meat for sale.
• Knowledge of cutting, trimming, and boning meat.
• Familiarity with using hand tools and operating powered meat cutting equipment.
