About the position

The Mechanic Apprentice position at XPO involves performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty diesel equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company standards. Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment.
• Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations in maintenance tasks.
• Inspect and perform work on all parts of vehicles and trailers.
• Repair or rebuild equipment systems as needed.
• Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare necessary documentation.
• Move trailers throughout the property using a hostler in various weather conditions.
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles safely and effectively.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Interact with operations and shop management.

Requirements

• 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance.
• A valid driver's license.
• Brake inspection qualified as per FMCSA regulations, Section 396.25.
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as per FMCSA regulations, Section 396.19.
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

• High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience.
• Previous or current ASE certifications.
• Diesel tech school diploma.
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, ARC and MIG.
