About the position

The Mechanic - CDL A position at Cranemasters involves diagnosing mechanical failures, executing repairs, and performing routine maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles. This role is critical for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of equipment used in emergency response situations. The mechanic will work in a fast-paced environment, adhering to safety protocols while providing high-quality service to meet the demands of the railroad industry.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Cranemasters safety policies and procedures, participating in daily job briefings.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures, completing complex repairs and modifications as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance in compliance with Cranemasters PM program, recommending repairs or replacements as necessary.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and timely, including work orders and inspection documents.
  • Route emergency repair requests to the Shop Foreman/Manager to ensure priority assignments are addressed promptly.
  • Support the training of other mechanics in both administrative and technical tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, ensuring tools are in good repair and returned to their designated locations.
  • Complete required training for safety procedures and technical skill enhancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and trade school or equivalent training in diesel mechanical repair/maintenance.
  • Five years of hands-on repair and maintenance experience with heavy equipment.
  • Professional certifications related to maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (ASE) preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations preferred.
  • Possession of a state/federal inspection license preferred.
  • Strong drive for achieving results and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills for maintaining service records and documentation.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record; preference for Class A or B CDL.
  • Strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required.
