About The Position

The Mechanic Helper position at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant involves performing skilled mechanical work under direct supervision. The role focuses on the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of various nuclear power plant equipment, including turbines, pumps, and valves. This position serves as a stepping stone to advance into a Mechanic classification upon completion of training and qualifications.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Good written and verbal skills
• Strong teaming skills and ability to work well with others
• Self-motivated
• Must take and pass the Power Plant Maintenance Position Selection Process Test (MASS test)

Nice To Haves

• Commercial / Military Mechanical Experience, preferably with Nuclear Power
• Maintenance type work experience
• Welding and Machining experience
• Rigging experience
• Mobile Crane Operating Experience
• Commercial Driver License
• Familiarity with reading mechanical drawings and vendor technical manuals

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled mechanical work in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of nuclear power plant equipment.
• Inspect and repair turbines, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, valves, air compressors, and diesel engines.
• Align and balance rotating equipment.
• Perform welding, oxyacetylene cutting, and brazing.
• Operate forklifts, man lifts, cranes, and trucks as required.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, drill presses, and other machine tools.
• Review work documents, procedures, and technical information, and prepare for pre-job briefs.
• Assist in the review of work documents and procedures during the preparation phase.
• Conduct parts verification and field walk downs.
• Document all activities conducted accurately and extensively use written procedures.
• Perform emergency response duties as assigned.
